Jorge Sanchez

I am a mixed media artist and picture framer working in south London.

I was born and raised in the Philippines, and although I always felt the urge to create, my early career followed a professional path. I gained a degree in Pharmacy at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila and worked as a pharmacist in the university hospital for over 10 years. In 2005, I moved to the UK and my life took a new direction: I started a small picture framing business with my partner - working from home and, initially, mainly for friends. I take a great deal of care with my hand-finished frames.

Meanwhile, I also started working with mixed media, reviving the interest I have had in art since my schooldays. I prepare and stretch my own canvases, and use material such as hardboard, vinyl floor tiles, recycled wood panels and roof slates. I particularly love experimenting with different mediums and techniques to add exciting textural effects.   I build texture, form and colour using gesso, plaster, bitumen, image transfer techniques, a variety of paints, waxes, and varnishes; and - of course! - I frame the finished work myself.

Painting is my Passion!
